2006 - 2007

Congrats to 17U Pacers - Blue (7/26 - 8/01/07)

Congratulations are in order to our 17U Prince William Pacers - Blue Team as most of them rap up their AAU basketball careers placing 9th place among 64 teams at the 2007 17 & Under AAU Division II National Championship in Orlando, Florida from July 26-August 1, 2007!!!!

The team was coached by Charles Wilson (Potomac H.S. Head JV Coach), Reginald Wanzer (Woodbridge H.S. Asst JV Coach) and Roger Cornwell (Potomac H.S. Asst JV Coach).  The players are all local talents, mostly rising Seniors, from Potomac, Freedom, Hylton, Garfield and Colonial Forge High Schools.

They won all three games in pool play beating Raiders of Oakland (Michigan) 81-54; NFBC Orange Park Suns (Florida) 68-67; and SO LA Red Storm (Louisiana) 80-53 to advance to the National Championship Bracket.  In bracket play, they beat Hightower Hoopsters (North Carolina) 72-59 then lost in the second round to the National 4th Place finisher, G.O.S.H. Warriors (New York) 80-91.  Falling into the the 2nd Round Consolation bracket with the possibility of 6th or 9th place, they beat Wilson Warriors (North Carolina) 67-65; Middle GA Bucks (Georgia) 77-66; and challenged the New Jersey Panthers for the 6th place ranking but came short in a 59-51 lose to finish 9th in the Nation!!!

Outstanding showing at a National Championship as this will be the last AAU nationals for all the rising Seniors that commit to Colleges as they inspire to further their basketball careers!!!  I'm extremely proud of and overjoyed for them, especially because I have had the opportunity to coach many of them (some as young as 9 years old) throughout their Pacers careers and to see their progression and maturity on and off the court is incredible!!!

Also noteworthy - Several other players (Christopher Hill, Darryl McKeithan, Jason Clark) not listed above that helped the team at the State Tournament could not make the National trip to Florida and the 17U Pacers Gold Team (other local PW County rising junior and seniors - Michael Salomon, Klute Watkins, Darren Barber, Aaron Jones, Akeem Israel, Isaiah Graham, Scott Carpenter, Stefone Pringle, Darius Brent, Jeffrey Rowe, Rapheal Putney and Darius Colbourn) qualified to attend but elected not to go the Nationals because of other commitments.

I wish them all much success and I'm sure we will see many of these names in the news during their final high school season.

CONGRATULATIONS again!!!

 Pacers 12U 1st Place Kudos (7/08/07)
Congratulations to the Pacers 12U Team for taking 1st Place in the 2007 AAU National "Classic" Division I Championship Tournament!!! This team really shows that hard work and perseverance really pays off. They sputtered during pool play going 1-2, but after landing in the Classic Tournament Bracket won 6 straight to take the championship, which earned them an automatic bid to next years AAU National Division I tournament!! Again, great job to the players, coaches, and parents...truly representing the Pacers, Prince William County, and the Commonwealth of Virginia!!!!

12U Pacers Blue Rock (5/27/07)
It is with great pleasure to congratulate the Pacers 12U Blue team for winning the 2007 USSSA Division II State Championship on Sunday, May 27th in Fort Lee, VA. The team truly was challenged and worked hard to sweep this tournament away by winning all of their games by an average of 20 points, earning them a spot to travel to Indiana to participate in Nationals this summer!

Great Job 17U Pacers (5/20/07)
Congratulations to the 17U Prince William Pacers who breezed through the 17U Division II District Championship this weekend. If you missed it they put on a high flying dunk-fest, three point shot-a-thon, superior ball handling, crowd pleasing display in the championship game with a 42 point victory over the runner-up opponent!! This is a back-to-back championship for this team that won this tournament last year as a 16U team. Great job to the players and coaches and good luck in the AAU Nationals this summer!!!!

The 17U Prince William Pacers "White" Team held it's own in the tournament too... making it to the quarterfinal game (top six (6) finisher). I'm checking to find out if their finish will still qualify them for Nationals....Great job to this young team comprising of mostly 16U players.

The 17U Prince William Pacers "Woodbridge HS" Team had two nail bitter losses (by 2 points in their opener and by 1 point from a buzzer beater shot in the losers bracket)...this team is mostly comprised of 16U old players, so I expect to see them back next year competing for the championship!!

Way to Go 12U Pacers Blue (5/06/07)
The Prince William Pacers were definitely in full force representing the organization well this weekend at the 2007 Virginia Invitational Tournament (VIT). Out of our current 12 Pacers teams, 8 teams competed in the tournament and all 8 teams advanced from pool play to bracket play on Championship Sunday. This is an exceptional showing for our basketball club!!!!

Here are the results:

9U Pacers - Coach Glover - VIT Champions

11U Pacers - Coach Aust - VIT Runners-up

12U Pacers - Coach Smith - VIT Champions

13U Pacers - Coach Blackshear - VIT Runners-up

14U Pacers - Coach Muhammad - VIT Semifinal finish

15U Pacers - Coach Allen - VIT Quarterfinal finish

Shoutout for 12U Pacers Blue (4/29/07)
The 12U Blue Team finished 2nd in the MD Ruff Ryders Tournament held in Landover, MD. The team has been working hard the entire season in improving and this work paid off as they were able to beat some accomplished teams from the Potomac Valley. Good luck in your endeavor to win the USSSA State Championship.

Way to Go 14U Pacers (4/29/07)
The Pacers Boys 14U team had a victorious weekend in Richmond, Virginia at the Division II State Tournament. They lost early and went to the loser bracket Saturday. They battled back to win 6 straight games to advance to the championship game, but fell a little short to take home the "Silver Medal" and a second seed for the Division II National Championships in Cocoa Beach, Florida in July 2007. The players showed a lot of heart and we are definitely proud of them! Outstanding Job!

Congratulations to the Prince William Pacers 13U Team!!!!! They finish 2nd in the Metro Sixers Fall League and were runners-up in the playoff championship game yesterday losing by 2 points to the MD Madness. Despite going through a grueling workout on Saturday night; winning two earlier games on Sunday vs. Next Level Warriors and LA Hawks; and falling behind by as many as 12 points early in the championship contest, this team fought back and made a game of it that could have went either way in the closing seconds!!

This team is definitely starting to emerge as one of the best 13U Teams in the area!! With continued hard work and dedication from the Players and Parents, we will be a force to be reckoned with throughout the Nation as we go through with 2007 season!!

We wish a speedy recovery to our two big guys!!!! Jahaan Roberson who broke a few fingers and knuckles earlier in the week and was unable to suit up yesterday and Darius Parson who despite having to get seven stitches in his forearm, sustained during the championship game last night.he endured the pain and blood to come back on the court to battle with his teammates!!!

Congrats to all Pacers! (7/22/05)

Hello Pacers 15 & Under Parents,

Once again I'd like to thank you all for your support throughout the season
and allowing your son to be apart of this 15 & Under Pacers Team.  I'm
extremely proud of what we have been able to accomplish this year; placing
2nd in the State and placing 1st or 2nd in most of the tournament we
participated in this year is phenomenal!!!

This year we were able to advance further than ever in the National
Tournament and showed we are a team to be reckoned with.  We went 2-1 in
our pool losing our 1st game 65-63 to Meanstreets (coached by Tai Streets -
a wide receiver for the Detroit Lions), then came rawing back the next day
against the number one team in the pool (Alabama Westchester Rockets)
beating them 87-62, and held off the determined Jersey Renegades White team
70-69.

Moving on to the National Tournament bracket we were in familiar territory
having to face a Potomac Valley (Maryland) team in the first round as we
defeated the PG All-Stars 67-56. In the  second round game we had to face
the #1 seeded team in the tournament - P. Miller Ballers (coached by rapper
Master P and his son Romeo who played sparingly during the game).  We
fought extremely hard and had them on the ropes in the second half of the
game, but finally loss 81-73.  See the attached article for the local paper
about our game against them.  P. Miller Ballers beat Triple Threat (71-61),
NC Raptors (79-71), and Cincinnati Royals (77-67) before losing in the
championship game to D One Greyhounds (88-74).

We were emotionally drained and physically beat up after the P. Miller
Ballers' game as we moved to the 2nd Round Losers bracket where we could
have placed 7th or 11th if we could win three in a row.  We had to face the
Memphis YOMCA team who defeated the Richmond Squires (73-58) and loss to
Triple Threat (70-66) to end up in the losers bracket.  Both teams defeated
us earlier in the season - So, our hands were full and our bench players
really stepped it up because three of our starters (Jason, Adrian, and
Craig) was hurt as we pulled out the win 49-48.  Our finally game of the
tournament was against the NY based team Westchester Hawks who we faced a few weeks prior at the Paul VI tournament.  They got us be 2 in that
tournament, so both team new each other well and it was a hard fought
contest - but they got us again, this time by 3 points.  We had a good look
at a three point shot at the end of the game but came up short.

Devastated by the loss and the end of our season was felt by the entire
team, but we held our heads high as we left the locker room because we had
a great run and gave it everything we had - just 3 points and a game away
from placing at this National Tournament!!!!  Overall in the national
tournament we went 4-3.

Again, I enjoyed having each and every player and what they brought to the
game and team!!!  I look forward to having them all back to try to do
bigger and better things next season.  I wish them all much success during
their high school season!!!!

Hope to see you all at the Pacers' Organization Day next month.  More
information to follow on that soon....

Thanks again......

The 14 and Under Prince William Pacers WIN the Virginia AAU State Championship this past weekend, April 16-18, 2004, in Hampton.  The tournament started Friday night with 18 teams.  Some of the notable teams in the tournament were the BWSL Norfolk Wildcats (2003 13 and Under National Classic runner-ups); the Middleburg Lions (2004 Greensboro Super Regional Champions and automatic bid to either Division I or II Nationals); and Charlottesville Crusaders (automatic bid to Division II Nationals).

The Pacers won their first game, 80-70, against the home team BWSL Peninsula Magic.  The Pacers struggled from the free throw line during this game, keeping the game closer than it should have been.   Their next game was against the BWSL Blue (2004 13 & Under Virginia AAU State Champions) who posed a great challenge, but eventually fell to the Pacers 67-51.  In the quarter final, the Pacers then found themselves down by 8 points against the Richmond Squires, but fought back to lead the game by 4 points down the stretch as the Squires hit a three pointer at the buzzer closing the game out with a final score 63-62 Pacers.  The Pacers cruised through the semi final game beating the BWSL Virginia Beach Heat Henderson - 69-54.  Going into the Championship game undefeated, the Pacers found themselves in another battle against the Richmond Squires who had fought their way through the losers bracket.  With the momentum on the Squires side they edged the Pacers 60-61, handing the Pacers their first loss forcing a tie breaker game.   In the final game the Pacers controlled the game for the first 3 quarters leading by as much as 12 points.  In the 4th quarter the Squires made their move closing the gap and eventually getting the game to within 1 point.  With 4 seconds left on the clock, the Squires had the final possession and was able to get the ball inbounded but missed the put-back at the buzzer.

The 14 and Under Prince William Pacers dodge a close call and take the gold as the 2004 Virginia State Champions; 2nd Place - Richmond Squires; 3rd - BWSL VA Beach Heat Henderson; 4th - BWSL VA Beach Heat Gladden; 5th - BWSL Peninsula Magic; and 6th - BWSL Portsmouth Panthers.  The 2004 National Championship will be played in the Disney's Wide World of Sports, Lake Buena Vista, Florida, July 31 - August 7, 2004.
